KYLIE COSMETICS: LIP GLOSSES REVIEW

Kylie Cosmetics Lip Glosses in So Cute and Literally UK Beauty Blogger blog Review

I did it. I bought the Kylie Cosmetics Lip Glosses in 'Literally' and 'So Cute'. Kylie Jenner has been on fire with her new business venture recently and her liquid lipsicks are really speaking for themselves in terms of quality. I haven't managed to get my hands on one of those just yet but I was right in there when the glosses launched. I was surprised that Kylie chose to launch glosses next as her Twitter poll a while back clearly stated that people wanted eyebrow products the most. I also have heard that matte lips are taking a break over SS16 and glosses are going to be in... but whether or not that's true, I don't know.... I do love matte lips!

The Gloss

I chose 'Literally' and 'So Cute' but left 'Like' behind, as the browns were quite similar. I'm really happy with my choices and they're extremely pigmented, as seen on Kylie's Snapchat! They're $15 which isn't too bad! The formula is great and the glosses aren't sticky at all. The high pigmentation means that you could wear them without a lip liner underneath, yay! If you like the look of these, but don't want to spend the money on the shipping/customs, I think a comparable dupe for these would be one of the NYX Butter Gloss as it has a similar consistency. The glosses themselves smell like some kind of amazing, ultra rare, limited edition vanilla Yankee Candle (lol)

I've worn Literally out for an entire day and minus the fact that glosses need re-applying a lot anyway, it actually wore very well and looked lovely on. I really love the formula/consistency and it's a shame the company have tarnished themselves in terms of customer service as the products do speak for themselves.

Shipping

I wasn't impressed with the processing time of my parcel. It took 7 days for the company to actually ship it out, which was overkill in my opinion as they're not exactly an indie company. It also took around 2 to 3 days for my parcel to arrive in the UK, but it was stuck in customs for 8 days. I had a £12.25 customs charge which REALLY annoyed me. Why do we actually get charged customs? It really annoys me, like I'm just a girl tryna get her USA beauty fix! I also hate that shipping is $15 for a lip gloss. Those could easily be packed into smaller bags, the huge boxes aren't necessary for such a small product. If you want to get your hands on every shade of the lip kits or glosses, but miss them all in the same order, I would suggest using a US courier. You'll save money on shipping and customs that way as well.

Seed Beauty & Wand Drama

After all the drama going down over the last couple of weeks, I do feel the need to comment on the customer service! Considering the average re-stock release is around 30-50,000 units, Kylie Jenner is making over $1million every time she restocks her kits. I'd really like to see some social media customer service being utilised with that huge profit being generated, or even just e-mail customer service, I mean it's 2016, almost every brand has either live chat or a decent Twitter customer service! To have such slow e-mail replies isn't exactly acceptable from a company as big as Seed Beauty, as they sit there making millions from these cosmetic ventures. I definitely think the customer service issues and problems consumers are facing are coming from the lack of care on the end of this company. Colourpop are similar, barely offering any assistance on Twitter/Facebook either. It's just those painstakingly (slow) e-mail replies. I think Kylie Cosmetics are seriously understaffed as well and it leads to problems in the warehouse, because I've seen several complaints about products not turning up or being wrong. I suspect the problem may be that Seed Beauty focus primarily on Colourpop, and Kylie Cosmetics are just an afterthought right now. They're made and shipped out from the same place if you guys didn't know, although they're not the same products.

*EDIT* MAY 16TH 2016: A Youtuber called Stephanie Nicole has now made a video on the Colourpop formula and they are exatly the same as Kylie's formula. You're paying for the name. You can watch the video here.

My wand was pretty horrible when it turned up, as you can probably tell from the picture. I did cut off the bits that were sticking out everywhere though and now my wands are okay/useable. I'm kind of annoyed that I had to do that though, as you don't expect to have to tamper with a product to make it worth having! I actually e-mailed Kylie Cosmetics customer service about it and enquired if these replacements would be sent as gifts, as I'm not happy paying customs for something that is supposed to be a free replacement for a faulty item and I got a standard copy and paste message back, which frustrated me as I had asked a specific question.

UK Beauty Blogger Blog Kylie Cosmetics Messed Up Wand, Broken Wand, Faulty

I think the moral of the story here is to never buy first releases of products. Companies will always change the formula/packaging of a product to reflect customer feedback within the first few months, meaning you'll be left with a sub-standard product if you order the first batch. (Just like when people went crazy for the ABH Contour Kits but then the colours got changed to a less orange/warm toned browns!) I think next time Kylie Cosmetics releases a product, I'll wait a few months before buying it, as I have with the liquid lipsticks.

Did you guys manage to get one or are you going to grab one in the next release? What are your thoughts on the whole wand drama? Let me know!

  1. There's so much hype and mixed reviews around Kylie's lip products! I can't believe the state of those brushes. I agree, they really need to sort out their customer service. It's so poor x

  4. I am not a fan of glosses and so I wasnt very excited about these. They do look amazing and very pigmented but I dont think I would wear them that much.

    1. I rarely wear glosses either, but with summer I wanted something I don't have to worry about re-applying too perfectly :) x

  5. The colours are amazing although the wand quality is really disappointing considering it's a lot of money for something that isn't even in perfect condition! x

  8. I haven't been able to get my hands on any of the liquid lipsticks, but definitely want to in the near future! That's REALLY annoying about shipping & customs. Like, honestly, they could offer free shipping, especially if you spend a certain amount of money. I hope they send you better wands once they restock because those applicators are just unacceptable! It's not like this is some indie brand started by someone with limited funds.. it's Kylie Jenner.

I definitely learned never to buy the first batch of products because you're right, companies change things once they hear customer feedback!

    1. They're apparently sending out replacements, I've e-mailed though so we'll see, I better not be charged customs for a replacement of a FAULTY product lol

  9. So disappointing about the quality! I'm still deciding on whether or not I want to take the chance as some of my friends have been charged A LOT for tax and stuff to get it to Australia x

  10. It's really unfortunate about what happened to the wand. I've read it was also the case for other people.
I think I will just look for dupe. ;)

  11. I decided not to buy them before all the drama but this is purely conspiracy. I don't have a vendetta against Kylie lol. But one thing that stood out in your post was the comparison between the customer service of Kylie & Colour pop. Makes me think about the speculation over the lip kits being private labelled Colourpop. Simply curiosity though. After seeing so many poor reviews, I'm definitely not going to go for it x

    1. They're manufactured in the same lab but they're not the same :) Kylie's lip kits actually have added moisturisers and other ingredients like that! Pretty sure the lip pencils are the exact same though...

  14. I'm so glad you enjoy the product and that it wasn't a waste of money. I think this is one beauty product I won't be buying into, purely for the customs price! I wouldn't want to be hit with that sort of fee.

  16. Oh wow, I'm sorry you had to go through so much hassle before you even got them here, and having to pay at customs sucks! I've heard a lot of mixed thoughts on them but they got so much hype, it's nice to see someone stand up and point out they aren't all glitz and glam! Awesome post

  18. I've been put off the brand altogether after all the complaints I've seen and how they've been handled. Like you said it's not like it's an indie brand without much support. Xx

  20. The first time I saw it, I knew I was going to love it. I said to myself that i need to get my hands on one of these before they sell out. It's unbelievably awesome. As an entrepreneur, hoping I could come up with a business like this.
